Social Share Tags

Use Social Share Tags to encourage recipients of your Email Campaigns to share either the email content or a URL on popular social networks.

If a recipient shares your content via a social network it has the potential to reach a wider audience outside of the Lists you send to. You can then track User social sharing activity in Campaign Reports.

Using Social Share Tags

Share an Entire Email

This is the default action for Social Share Tags. Users clicking these Social Share Tags will be suggested to share a Social version of the email content, which has all personalisation removed.

Share a URL

You can also use Social Share Tags to share a specific URL. This is useful if you want to encourage Users to share a specific article, promotion or image on an external website.

You can include as many Social Share Tags as you like in an Email Template, so these can be used in conjunction with Share Tags suggesting the User shares the email content.

If you'd like to form the links yourself for another social network, but still track in Email Campaigns as a Social Share, you can mark the links as "Generic" Social Shares.

Adding Social Share Tags to Templates

Social Share Tags can be inserted into Email Templates as HTML tags or using the Online Editor. When the Template is sent as an Email Campaign or test email the tags will be formatted as URLs - useful for testing Share Tags.

Add Share tags to your HTML

Share tags are any <a> tag with the attribute "social-network" (see "Social Networks supported" table above for attribute value to choose). For example:

<a href="#" social-network="facebook">Share this email on Facebook</a>

If you want to share a URL instead of the email content on Facebook, Google+ or LinkedIn then include a "social-url" attribute:

<a href="#" social-network="google" social-url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway">Share this link on Google+</a>

For Twitter, to share a custom tweet use the "social-tweet" attribute:

<a href="#" social-network="twitter" social-tweet="Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway">Tweet this link</a>

Send Inbox Tests and follow the Social Share links to proof how Users will see the links.

Add a Social Share button using the Online Editor

  1. Click "Templates" in the sidebar then click on the relevant Email Template.
  2. Click the "Edit Content" button in the top right.
  3. Choose the "Social Sharing" dropdown from the toolbar.
  4. Select the network to add a Social Share button to the content.
  5. Once the button has been inserted, you can right-click it and select "Edit Link" to customise what content is shared.

Reviewing Share tags before sending

As well as sending test emails, you can also review the Share Tags found in a Template in the "Social Share Tags" panel. This is found on the "Tracking" page of View Email Template.

Reporting

All Social Share activity is tracked, check the "Social Sharing Tags" panel in the Campaign Report.
