Text-only Email Content

It's always good practice to include a text version of the content when sending any HTML email.

99.9% of people will be able to view HTML emails but there will be a small number of people that are not able to and so by including a text version you're not leaving them out and stopping them from seeing your message.

Mail filters also like to see a text version being included with HTML emails and if you don't do that when you view an Email Template the Junk Mail Filter results will score that quite badly.

Including a text version is so easy to do there's no reason to leave it out.

When uploading your own designs you can include a .txt file but if you haven't done that then are still options to create it online.

Use the Online Editor

Text versions can include personalisation, Template Language and links can be tracked by wrapping content in {?URL?} {?/URL?} tags.

  1. Click "Templates" in the sidebar then click on the relevant Template to edit.
  2. In the "Content" section click the edit icon next to "Text-only Alternative".
  3. Use the Editor to edit the Text-only content.
  4. Click "Save Changes" when finished editing.

Generate from HTML Version

It is very important to review the Text-only content and tweak as necessary; due to the complexity of HTML, auto-generating Text-only content might not return the results you expect.

  1. Click "Templates" in the sidebar then click the relevant Template to view it.
  2. On the "Content" page, scroll down to the "Text-only Alternative" panel.
  3. Within the "Text-only Alternative" panel click "Create from HTML".
  4. You'll then be forwarded to a preview of the Text-only alternative content.
